About 20 twenty children of Kassak Lajos Secondary Grammar School had a great time in England between 10th and 17th of March. We travelled in a two-storey-bus, but the way took about 22-24 hours, so at the end we were very tired and we were waiting to meet the English families of Hastings, which is at the south part of England, and it is a very famous historical battlefield (After Christ 1066). About the families: they were very friendly, kindly, but a little bit boring (English jokes, eating fish day after day, etc.) but we didn’t have big problems. Every day we had to wake up at 8 o’clock, because the school begins at 9 in England. We were playing and talking in English between 9 and 12 o’clock, and then we always had very tasty lunch: pizza, fish and chips, hamburger, rice and cola or mineral water. After the school we always had a sigh-seeing tour. We had a great time every day. We were at Seven Sisters Cliffs. It was so amazing, the sea was cold, the air was fresh, and we could see the sunset. It was unbelievable. We saw a lot of ports, and we tried to learn about their culture, because the fishing has a big tradition in Southern England. We were on a huge pier, where we could take part in illusionists’ tricks, and we could prove our abilities in a huge amusement park, which took place on the pier. My favourite day was travelling to Leeds Castle. It was a stronghold, with a huge golf-park, paintings about Henry VIII, bird-sanctuary, etc. It was my favourite day: Fantastic with one word. Last day we were in the capital: London. There is a huge distance between Hastings and London. Our bus stopped and we saw-all of a sudden-the Parliament with the Big Ben. I couldn’t believe my eyes: it is so big and similar to the tower of Pisa. We were in Chelsea and other important parts of London, but unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to sit on the London Eye - sponsored by British Airways - go to the British Museum and Parliament. We arrived in Budapest on Saturday afternoon. Everybody was happy, tired of travelling by bus across France, Germany, England, Belgium and Austria - and had a lot of relics about this unforgettable vacation. Csákó Bence |
